Youth Volunteering Opportunities

Youth in the Community Program

Youth in the Community (YIC), provides knowledge to Stratford students about volunteering and refers students to various volunteer experiences within the Greater Bridgeport Area. YIC can be viewed as a clearing house which collects and maintains information about regional agencies and disseminates information to students to help them find a meaningful and rewarding volunteer experience. All students, especially high school students, are taught how to document their volunteer hours so they can receive a half course credit (60 hours) on their transcript. In addition, students are taught how to use volunteer letters of recommendation to build a resume and also make use of their letters for applications relating to jobs or post-secondary education. Middle School students are made aware of the importance of volunteering their time and talents and to begin documenting their volunteer hours. Students must be 13 years of age and in 7th grade to be able to volunteer at most agencies in the community.
